Software Defined Radio Forum has a general meeting scheduled in Mainz, Germany, April 21-23 at the Offices of The Regulatory Authority of Telecommunications and Posts (Reg TP). It is open to all those who are interested in SDR technologies.


General Meetings are conducted five times a year and typically involve focused plenary sessions to address the business aspects of the Forum, management of work, and approval of documents. Highlights for this meeting will include:

- Reports on SDR in Space applications
- Updates on the Forum’s worldwide regulatory activities
- Reports on Hardware Abstraction Layer Request For Information issued to industry in February
- Sessions on security issues related to downloads and networks
- Open discussions on international variations related to SDR

The Forum will host two special sessions prior to the meeting:
April 19—International Public Safety Symposium to Examine Role of SDR in Addressing Interoperability Issue
April 20—Systems Issues Workshop co-hosted by European Union’s E2R program

Software Defined Radio Forum to Work with European Union to Address the Challenge of End-to-End Reconfigurability

Denver, Colorado, April 8, 2004—The Software Defined Radio (SDR) Forum—in conjunction with the European Union’s E2R (end-to-end reconfigurability) program—is hosting a workshop to address the challenges to end-to-end reconfigurability. The workshop on Systems Issues is scheduled for April 20 in Mainz, Germany, and it will take place prior to the Forum’s General Meeting in Mainz, April 21-23.

The Systems Issues workshop will be held at the Offices of The Regulatory Authority of Telecommunications and Posts (Reg TP). For more information on the workshop, contact Al Margulies, chief operating officer of the SDR Forum, 303-628-5461 or asm@sdrforum.org.

Workshop highlights will include: reports on current European Union activities and E2R updates; sessions on regulatory, security, Hardware Abstraction Layer, Application Program Interface, and software download issues; and discussions on the implications for system vendors, chip an component suppliers, carriers, and regulators.

The key objective of the E2R project is to devise, develop and trial architectural design of reconfigurable devices and supporting system functions to offer an expanded set of operational choices to the users, applications and service providers, operators, regulators in the context of heterogeneous mobile radio systems. The European Union’s E2R project consortium is composed of major manufacturers, operators, academia and regulators.
