The exciting challenge being addressed by this conference is to identify the new, innovative applications that will define the shape of future networks, and to explore the new functions that will enable the commercially successful delivery of such applications, including functions that support Electronic Commerce, Personal and Terminal Mobility and the harnessing of intelligent devices. Perhaps the most important network feature is the convergence of different access and core network technologies such as IP, PSTN, xDSL, CATV, WLAN and 2G/3G mobile networks to create a unified service space. This convergence can be greatly facilitated by the availability of innovative middleware solutions that support intelligence in either the networks or handset/terminals. Speakers from 23 different countries with a strong European representation as well as Asian and North American will be present.

Leading figures from the industry and standards communities will give keynote addresses at the start of the conference: Houlin Zhao, Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of ITU-T, Karl-Heinz Rosenbrock, Director General of ETSI and Marty Slatnick from IBM Software.

Parallel sessions will be running during most of the event, giving delegates the opportunity to choose between two state-of-the-art presentations by worldwide specialists in telecommunication and information technologies.

The conference will end with 2 single track sessions on “emerging technologies” followed by “innovation in Business”, before the closing session.

There will be adequate breaks for networking and visiting the exhibition, where key players from the industry will be demonstrating their latest developments.

ICIN2004 will take place partly at the Palais des Congrиs and at the Sofitel hotel which are located in the Business area of Bordeaux Lac. Previous ICIN conferences have attracted some 250-550 delegates from every continent and over 30 countries.

The social programme includes a cocktail reception at the Bordeaux Town Hall in the evening of the 19th October. A gala dinner will take place at the Chвteau Goudichaud near St Emilion, on 20th October.
