The worldwide telecommunications industry is being energised by the rapid pace at which the different wireless broadband technologies are developing. Being able to access the Internet while on the move is now indispensable for business travellers - and WiMAX is waiting in the wings to join WLAN and UMTS. The clear aim is to make high-speed Internet access available everywhere and at all times. In addition to large companies, a number of brave and pioneering start-up companies are making an important contribution. Indeed, it is difficult to imagine so much innovation in the industry without the visions and commitment of these outstanding entrepreneurs. The Wireless Broadband Innovation Award (WBIA) sets out to recognize the excellent work being done by companies and individuals from across the world in its nine categories.

The award ceremony will form a part of a gala event on the evening of the 20th of April 2005 in London - the opening day of the annual "Wireless LAN Event". Organized by WBI Awards Ltd, the jury will include a number of prominent and highly regarded international experts from the industry. Along with the nine award categories and the nomination procedure, the members of the jury will be announced over the coming weeks within the scope of a number of industry events.
