Gurgaon (India), November 9, 2004: Hughes Software Systems (HSS) today announced that it has been selected by Lucent Technologies to deploy the HSS Mediation Systems for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network of HOT Telecom, a leading telecom service provider in Israel. HOT Telecom is currently in the process of providing VoIP services over its cable network in Israel and will use the HSS Mediation System to enable billing for this service.

HOT Telecom has selected Lucent Worldwide Services as its partner to provide end-to-end network integration and security services, including network design, engineering, deployment maintenance and the overall integration of operations support and billing systems. As a part of the complete solution, Lucent will use the HSS Mediation System, comprising of the Billing Mediation System (BMS), to offer a world class billing solution to HOT Telecom. The BMS collects and processes usage records from network elements and dispatches them to applications like Billing, Data Warehousing and Fraud Management.

The HSS Mediation System is highly scalable and has demonstrated the capability to handle over 1800 million usage records per day on a single server. Being a critical OSS component, the HSS Mediation System not only supports clustering, but also enables high availability. In addition, the HSS Mediation System architecture ensures business continuity, as there is no data loss in case of a system failure.

Some other customers who are currently on HSS Mediation system include Airtel (Bharti Cellular) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited.
