These new applications for camera phones bring personal handwritten notes back to where they should be - on virtual greeting cards. Camera phone users can now add a personal handwritten note to premium wireless greeting cards in just a couple of clicks, using an ordinary pen and paper. A first for camera phones, w-Greetings opens up a new opportunity for greeting card content owners, mobile carriers, as well as content providers to deliver new compelling premium services centered on content.

w-Greetings allows mobile users to select one of the included greeting card templates and add any type of personal handwritten message without the need for any specialized accessories. Based on Realeyes3D's patented ink extraction technology, w-Greetings' easy to use three-step process quickly analyses the image of the user's note and extracts it into the camera phone before adjoining it to the selected greeting card template. The result is a virtual greeting card with a crisp, legible handwritten text message that can be shared immediately with others. In addition to words, w-Greetings cards can include any type of content such as scribbles, drawings, or even artwork. For mobile users with non-Latin alphabets, w-Greetings is an ideal way to overcome the limitations of text messaging and quickly exchange highly personal wireless greeting cards, directly from the phone, for the first time.

w-Greetings, which launched initially on Symbian Series60, can be either carrier- or content provider-branded. This enables service providers to build an entire service based on premium greeting card content that they already own or distribute. Making its commercial debut on Nokia Preminet(tm), the software is "Symbian signed" and is available worldwide for users to download from Handango.com(tm) and Symbos.com(tm). Other platforms that will be supported soon include Windows ME and Java-enabled camera phones.
