Bern, January 27, 2005. Orange France extends its Wi-Fi service by providing worldwide coverage for its Wi-Fi customers. More than 10.000 hotspots throughout the world are now open to Orange France customers in partnership with WeRoam - the leading open platform for WLAN roaming. The launch of the service is scheduled for February 1st 2005. The partnership also extends WeRoam?s WLAN footprint with the integration of Orange France?s 6?500 hotspots into its aggregated network.
The hotspots available to Orange France customers abroad through this partnership with WeRoam are located in highly frequented locations such as international airports, Business centres, cafes, restaurants and in many leading hotel chains such as Sheraton Hotels & Resorts or Marriott Hotels & Resorts. The user experience is the same all over the world, thanks to the single identification method applied everywhere across the WeRoam aggregated network. Furthermore, Orange France customers are billed for their Wi-Fi connections on their normal monthly Orange bill, despite having visited several operators and countries.
The partnership with WeRoam allows Orange France to connect its Wi-Fi network with a large number of other Wi-Fi networks through one single partnership agreement. As the WeRoam aggregated network expands through a continuously growing number of partner networks, Orange France customers will have access to more and more Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide.
Jean-Marie Culpin, vice-president Business Solutions ?This partnership brings the France Telecom group a step further in the strategy of integrated offers that has started with Business Everywhere, enabling users to benefit from a seamless experience when traveling throughout the world, for accessing their business environment (mail, internet, intranet). Toni Stadelmann, CEO of WeRoam, is enthusiastic: ?This agreement not only represents a significant expansion of our aggregated network but also a major increase of traffic on the networks of all our WISP partners. Orange France, with its current hotspot network and wide range of WLAN services, already has a broad customer base of WLAN users in great need of international mobility. WeRoam facilitates the seamless integration of WLAN and GSM network technologies, enabling global roaming for WLAN services. Key solutions found in GSM technology have been adopted to develop the WeRoam platform, which provides secure authentication, signalling conversion, clearing and settlement services. This positions WeRoam as the only open roaming platform supporting all relevant authentication methods for WLAN Roaming such as SIM, Radius and EAP SIM. The wireless footprint includes today more than 10.000 Wi-Fi hotspot locations worldwide. The company was established in 2001 and is owned by TOGEWA Holding (Switzerland) and Infonet Service Corporation (USA). WeRoam?s innovative SIM based WLAN roaming solution is patent pending.
