3GSM, Barselona-2006: Growth of broker roaming service community continues at steady pace

13.02.2006, MForum.ru

Bern, Switzerland/3GSM World Congress, Barcelona, Spain, 13 February 2006 -Comfone, leading provider of roaming and signaling services to mobile operators in over 100 countries, announces the addition of more than 20 new operator members to its broker solution, Key2roam®, including major Tier 1 players in developed mobile markets. This ongoing success brings to around 80 the number of networks taking advantage of Comfone’s leading-edge roaming service.

The latest additions to the Key2roam community include: T-Mobile Germany, MobiNil Egypt, Hutchison 3G Australia, Infonet Venezuela, Orange Israel, Cable&Wireless West Indies, Vibo Taiwan, Novgorod Russia and many other important operators. Comfone is set to sign up many more members to its Key2roam platform during Q1 and Q2 2006, extending its leading position in the brokering market.

Comfone Key2roam eliminates the need for each operator to have a vast number of bilateral agreements in place – the traditional spaghetti-style scenario - one for each relationship it has with another network. Based on the GSMA-supported hub and spoke model, however, Comfone’s Key2roam bundles a complete package of roaming services, and with just one single bilateral roaming relation between the operator and Comfone participants are provided with full roaming access and interconnection to all other partners connected to Key2roam. This gives operators access to multiple destinations and networks worldwide.

Roaming relations are set up using conventional signaling and clearing methods. Any Key2roam member benefits from reduced complexity and costs without losing roaming coverage, or connectivity, and is able to focus on its core competencies, even being able to outsource labour intensive and expensive processes without losing know-how. All Key2roam processes are fully compliant with the appropriate GSMA standards.

“The Key2roam service solution allows operators to increase operational margins and free up valuable resources not possible with a spaghetti-style, bilateral approach to roaming,” said Oscar Derrer, Comfone’s Chief Executive Officer.

“And all this is possible through a single relationship with Comfone. And with the business model, there is no up-front investment risk to the operator. For participants, it is a win-win roaming solution, which is why more and more leading operators are joining the Key2roam community as they see how the service and its cost-effectiveness have proven themselves since we first launched the solution,” Derrer concluded.

Comfone launched its Key2roam brokering service during 2004. With leading customers all over the world, the solution is now able to link operators to a great many important roaming destinations and key markets across the globe. A new operator without any roaming agreements at all could, effectively, go from no relationships to having more than 80, through a single broker agreement.

Comfone supplies mobile operators with services for the worldwide interconnection of mobile networks, so-called 'roaming'. Founded in 1997 with the goal to provide efficient solutions in the field of international roaming Comfone’s service portfolio is currently unique in the world. Comfone is the first Roaming Broker and the only operator of an international roaming platform. Responding to the new trends towards convergence, the company launched its innovative Comfone wVoIP service in 2006, which combines all the advantages of GSM together with wireless VoIP functionality.

With head offices in Bern, Switzerland, Comfone is 75% owned by four founding members who are actively involved in the company. The company comprises about 70 employees, consisting of 13 nationalities who speak a total of 16 languages. Further services include: Signaling Solutions (SS7), Data, Financial, SMS and MMS Interworking Clearing, Roaming Management, and data services (GRX and MMS Hub) for GPRS and MMS.
